Discovery of a smaller-sized breed of Tyrannosaurus Rex was found, and nick-named a Raptorex. These smaller versions of a T Rex lived over 60 million years before the bigger ones started to exist. Scientist who studied the fossil, which died at age 5-6, believed it was an ancestor of the more fearsome dinasaur. Head author Paul Sereno and his colleagues together estimate the grown male Raptorex was around 9 feet tall and weighed about 143 pounds.
Even with it's size, both the Raptorex and Tyrannosaurus share the trait of tiny front limbs. Raptorexes were also vicious and able to take down pray larger than itself with it's sharp claws, teeth and big skull.
This animal, originally found in China, found it's way from there to the US, was purchased by a fossil collector and then donated to science. This was how Sereno became involved and was asked the identify the fossil. After studying it, he has become interested in possibly uncovering more about the evolution of the T. Rex and finding more skeletons. The fossil will be returned to China after all research and put on display close to where scientists had uncovered it.http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/science/09/17/tiny.t-rex.dinosaur.discovered/index.html?iref=allsearch
